Delivery and Post in Chinese

For addresses and tracking numbers, show the written information rather than relying on pronunciation. A courier only needs three things from you — the number, the address and a time — so keep all three on one screen and the conversation stays short.

Sending a parcel

寄 (jì) is “to send by post or courier”; 送 (sòng) is what the courier does when bringing it to your door. Staff usually ask what is inside, so have a one-word answer ready: 文件 (wénjiàn, documents), 衣服 (yīfu, clothes), 书 (shū, books).

Conversation: chase a parcel that has not arrived

Customer: 我还没有收到包裹。
(Wǒ hái méiyǒu shōudào bāoguǒ.)
Courier: 请给我您的快递单号。
(Qǐng gěi wǒ nín de kuàidì dānhào.)
Customer: 好，这是我的单号。
(Hǎo, zhè shì wǒ de dānhào.)

快递单号 (kuàidì dānhào) is the tracking number. Show it on screen rather than reading a long string of digits aloud — this is the single biggest time-saver in the whole exchange.

Conversation: arrange another delivery

Courier: 今天没有人收件。
(Jīntiān méiyǒu rén shōujiàn.)
Customer: 可以明天下午再送一次吗？
(Kěyǐ míngtiān xiàwǔ zài sòng yí cì ma?)
Courier: 可以，我帮您安排。
(Kěyǐ, wǒ bāng nín ānpái.)

Give a window, not just a day: 明天下午 (míngtiān xiàwǔ), 周六上午 (zhōuliù shàngwǔ), 晚上七点以后 (wǎnshang qī diǎn yǐhòu).

When you will not be at home

Confirm any of these through the carrier’s own app or official process as well. A verbal arrangement with one courier does not carry over to the next delivery.
